  • On the other hand, if you’re skinny then going through a cutting cycle (trying to lose the last amount of fat) is obviously not a good idea. You should first add some more muscles (and maybe some fat) and then you’re ready to cut. So you need a bulking cycle and then a cutting cycle.

So, how do you do that? It’s important to calculate your calories. Otherwise, how would you know that you eat less than your body burns? At the same time, you shouldn’t restrict your calories too much. If you do, you’re at high risk of losing strength and muscle mass. That’s why I recommend eating about 10-30% less than your maintenance calories. In fact, reaching 30% less requires proper knowledge and mainly, only with anabolic steroids in order to avoid muscle loss.

So, you need to start your cutting cycle slowly, at about 10-15% under your maintenance calories (maintenance calories are those that your body needs to maintain its current weight). So, to do so, you need to calculate them. There are great online calorie calculator tools that can help you determine your maintenance calories. They would require you to enter the following information: your age, gender, height, and weight as well as the weekly activity level.

Assuming you’re 200 lbs, you’ll need 200-320 g of proteins a day. 200-320 g x 4 calories = 800-1280 calories you get only from protein.
